Astronomy, time in its purest form. This is the source of inspiration for famous Dutch watchmaker Christiaan van der Klaauw. Van der Klaauw is an honourable member of the prestigious Swiss AHCI and founder of Christiaan van der Klaauw Astronomical watches which was established in 1974. It is the only studio in the world that is fully specialised in the design and manufacture of high-quality handmade mechanical astronomical watches.
Christiaan van der Klaauw Astronomical Watches is best known for its smallest mechanical Planetarium in the world and the world's most accurate three-dimensional moon phase in the Real Moon Joure. In 2011 and 2012 Christiaan van der Klaauw Astronomical watches were awarded "Watch of the Year Award".
In 2014, the legendary jewellery house Van Cleef & Arpels presented the most complicated watch ever. This complication - a Planetarium specially produced for them - was developed by Christiaan van der Klaauw Astronomical Watches. Iconic models from Christiaan van der Klaauw collection are the Planetarium, Real Moon Joure, Real Moon 1980.
